COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Following the death of longtime director Joseph Scheid earlier this month, Deputy Chief of Police Patrick Beeman has been appointed as the City of Coldwater’s new Director of Public Safety.
City officials says Beeman brings over 30 years of service with the Coldwater Police Department to his new role. Throughout his career, he has served in patrol, investigative, supervisory, and command positions, including patrol officer, sergeant, detective sergeant, lieutenant, and Deputy Chief of Police.
They say his experience also includes tactical operations, crash reconstruction, evidence management, forensic photography, and department training.
As Accreditation Manager, Beeman led the development of a comprehensive policy manual in support of the Department’s accreditation efforts and has continued to guide policy development and professional standards. He has also contributed to countywide work involving child advocacy and child-abuse investigation protocols.
Scheid joined the Coldwater department in December 1996 after graduating from Grand Valley State University. He was promoted to deputy director in 2016 and became Director of Public Safety in 2019.
He passed away August 3 at the public safety building.
