COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan State Police (MSP) are reminding motorists of key safety protocols to follow if they are pulled over on the road.
State troopers emphasize that traffic stops can be high-stress situations for both drivers and law enforcement officers.
To ensure the interaction is as safe and smooth as possible, the MSP advises drivers to pull over safely to the right side of the road, turn off the engine, and switch on the vehicle’s interior light if the stop occurs at night.
MSP troopers stress that drivers and passengers should keep their hands clearly visible on the steering wheel or in their laps, and avoid making any sudden movements or reaching into the glove compartment before being asked.
Motorists are encouraged to remain calm, comply with the officer’s instructions, and inform the trooper of the location of their license and registration before reaching for them.
