COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Apex Clean Energy will present more than $1 million in total tax and community benefit payments to Coldwater and Ovid Townships during a celebration on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The event, to be held held at the Lockwood Community Church in Coldwater, marks the first anniversary of operations for the 150-megawatt Coldwater Solar project and signals the start of construction on the adjacent 75-megawatt Coldwater Storage facility.
Company leaders will be joined by state and local officials, local landowners, and community stakeholders to commemorate the milestone, which includes the distribution of $365,818 to Coldwater Township and $726,144 to Ovid Township based on local millage rates.
Developed and operated by Apex Clean Energy, Coldwater Solar generates enough clean energy to power over 30,000 average Michigan homes annually and employs two full-time local solar technicians.
The project is projected to contribute roughly $30 million in new local revenue over its lifespan, providing funding for local schools, Branch County services, and the surrounding townships.
