COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – More than one hundred people gathered Friday morning at the Veterans Memorial at The Four Corners Park in Coldwater, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks against the United States.
Hosted by the Branch County Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Service Officer Nick Easterling began the ceremony by reading a proclamation from The Branch County Commissioners
The morning’s featured speaker was 5th District Congressman Tim Walberg
This mornings ceremony also featured a moment of silence at exactly 8:46 a.m., marking the time the first plane struck the twin towers in New York City.
Walberg also recognized two fallen local Marines from Union City High School, who died in the war on terror, Lance Cpl. Craig N. Watson and Sgt. Anthony D. Mattone, who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan respectively.
The congressman also recognized Coldwater firefighter Jacqueline Supianoski, a Marine Corps canine handler who worked explosive detection at Ground Zero following the attacks.
