COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a new three-year labor agreement on this week, securing wage increases for city employees represented by United Steelworkers Local 14178.
The new contract, which extends through June 2029, replaces an agreement that expired earlier this year on June 30. Under the newly finalized terms, covered workers will receive a 4% wage increase in the first year, followed by 3.5% in the second year, and 3% in the final year.
The agreement impacts 54 total employees, including 40 workers from the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) and 14 from the city’s Department of Municipal Services.
Beyond salary adjustments, the contract updates and clarifies several workplace guidelines, such as shifting break policies, expanding bereavement leave, and modifying dental reimbursements to align union terms with modern city personnel policies.
The final vote by the City Council follows a previous tentative approval by the CBPU Board of Directors earlier this month, officially resolving the contract negotiations.
