UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City Community Schools has announced it will host its inaugural “Literacy Under the Lights” event on Monday, October 12.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative for the district, the school system is inviting students, staff, families, and the the community to Alumni Field at Union City High School from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for an evening dedicated to celebrating reading.
The family-friendly gathering aims to blend community spirit with education, transforming the school’s athletic field into a vibrant hub for learning and engagement under the stadium lights.
The unique event will feature the district’s fall student-athletes teaming up with elementary school students to guide them through various interactive literacy activities on the field.
Surrounding the field, local businesses and community organizations are partnering with the schools to establish a lively, tailgate-style atmosphere.
By bringing together local resources, older student role models, and young readers, school officials hope to foster a lasting love for reading in an exciting and supportive environment.
