COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The price for a gallon of gas has skyrocketed 62-cents from last week to $4.93 on average in the state.
AAA Michigan says the price is up 72-cents from last month and $1.75 more than last year and it’s at a new high for 2026.
Branch County pump prices are in line with the state average as the new work week begins at $4.92 per gallon around the area. It’s $4.89 per gallon in both Hillsdale and Calhoun counties, and $4.95 in St Joseph County.
Across the state line in Indiana the average price per gallon is $4.01, that’s the first the Hoosier state has seen those prices since late spring due to the governor declaring a gas tax holiday back in May. In Steuben County this morning the average price per gallon stands at $3.94.
Dr. Jason Miller is a Michigan State University supply chain management professor and says oil prices remain around 100-dollars a barrel.
Nationally the average is at $4.47 .
