COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With the retirement of longtime Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak, her chief deputy clerk has been selected to fill the position
Circuit Judge Zach Stempien appointed and swore-in Chris Ransbottom as county clerk last Friday. She wll serve the rest of Kubasiak’s term through the end of 2028.
Michigan law gives county circuit judges the authority to fill vacancies until a successor is elected.
Ransbottom has served as the county’s chief deputy clerk for eight years and has worked in the clerk’s office since 2009. She was one of several applicants for the position.
Kubasiak succeeded Judy Elliot as County Clerk after she first elected to the office in 2004 and began serving in 2005. She faced no opposition when she was re-elected in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.
At 63, she said she was ready to spend more time with her grandchildren, and will probably move to the Kalamazoo area to be closer to them. Her last day was Friday, September 18.
