COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The St. Joseph County Conservation District says they have been awarded a grant from the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program to establish a cooperative invasive species management area in Branch, St. Joseph, and Hillsdale counties.
The new Southern Michigan Invasive Species Team includes a multitude of area partners.
The grant funding will be used to identify and map populations of invasive species and a management plan will be developed for the three-county area.
It’s estimated invasive species costs the United States over $138 billion yearly and can cause significant harm to natural communities if they are not properly addressed.
If you would like to report any invasive species or would like any assistance, please contact Coordinator Jared Harmon at (269) 467-6336.
If you believe you’ve seen invasive species, report them to the Midwest Invasive Species Information Network at misin.msu.edu.
