LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Supreme Court heard arguments in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the city of South Haven in the drowning death of 18-year-old Brandon Chambers in 2020.
His family says in the lawsuit that the city cut costs to increase profits when they eliminated the lifeguard program years earlier and say that was a factor in his death.
The city’s argument for immunity has resulted in the case reaching the state Supreme Court after Chambers’ family won in lower court.
The family’s attorney says yellow flags were flying at the beach, not red flags, as the city previously said.
Justices will make a decision within the next several weeks.
