Verla V. Cook, 94, of Quincy passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Drews Place of Coldwater.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Quincy with Pastor John Andrews officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy.
The family will receive friends for visitation at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
She was born in Quincy June 23, 1932 to Raymond and Mable (Fredrickson) Matz. She married Donald Cook November 7, 1954, and he preceded her in death July 15, 2024.
Verla graduated from Quincy High School class of 1950 and went on to work for Federal-Mogul doing clerical work. She then married the love of her life, Donald, and was a dedicated homemaker for her children and husband.
She enjoyed volunteering for many charities and organizations including the American Red Cross and the United Methodist Church of Quincy. Verla enjoyed being outdoors appreciating nature while tending to her flowers, traveling, and spending time with her family at her lake home. She enjoyed playing card games, crocheting, square dancing, and going for boat rides.
Verla never met a stranger and loved to socialize. She was a great listener and an even better friend.
Survivors include her four children, DeEtt (John) Andrews of Quincy, Paige (Tim) Mullen of Tennessee, Anjanelle (Todd) Sikkenga of Grand Rapids, and Derek Cook of California; seven grandchildren, Nolan (Melissa) Andrews, Tyler Andrews, Patricia (Sean Leyva) Cook, McKennah (Matt) Williams, Alec (Caroline) Mullen, Logan (Paige) Sikkenga, and Tiffany Schuitema; six greatgrandchildren, Gabriella, Cambria, Asher, Cameron, Violet, Jackson, and one on the way.
Verla was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Cook; her parents; and two siblings, Maxine Stempien, and Leo (Joan) Matz
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
