COLDWATER, MI — The Coldwater Fire Department, along with automatic aid from the Quincy and Bronson fire departments, successfully contained a commercial structure fire early Tuesday morning at the Coldwater Fresh Market located at 373 N. Willowbrook Dr.
Dispatchers sent fire crews to the occupied grocery store at 4:51 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke inside the building and flames bursting through a front window.
Crews brought the fire under control shortly after arriving on scene, limiting the fire damage to the front of the store before clearing the area at 6:41 a.m.
Coldwater Fire Marshall Jackie Supianoski says the probable cause of the fire was a chest freezer located near the front of the market.
The fire destroyed two chest freezers and damaged the front window, resulting in an estimated $20,000 in property damage and $25,000 in contents damage.
No hazardous materials, specialized rescues, or vehicles were involved, and no injuries or fatalities were reported for either civilians or emergency responders.
The Coldwater Police Department and Lifecare Ambulance also assisted on-scene, which included responses from Coldwater Car 6, Car 9, Engine 1, Engine 3, Quincy Engine 33, and Bronson Aerial 1.
