BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council voted down a proposal from the Michigan Department of Transportation on Monday night to implement a “road diet” along US-12 which would have converted the stretch from Albers Road to Wayne Street from four lanes to three.
Two Council members voted no, two others abstained while another did not vote.
Nationally recognized public health and transportation consultant Mark Fenton joined the meeting virtually to discuss what he felt were community benefits of the redesign.
Numerous concerns and questions were raised during a public hearing and ensuing discussion which lasted for nearly an hour. Council Member Larry McConn feared the change would lead to long backups.
Those who were pushing for the plan said there were 77 crashes on this segment of US-12 from 2021 to 2025, which resulted in 24 injuries, three of them were serious.
