COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Organizers say it was a beautiful night Saturday to support victim and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, with 165 attendees at the 40th Anniversary Illumination of Hope Gala sponsored by the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, with over $120,000 raised.
The event at The Rivers Edge south of Coldwater celebrated 40 years of service for the coalition while also serving as a fundraiser to offset the cuts from the State of Michigan that began October 1. Executive Director Kim Hemker says losses last year and then again this year have made it a very difficult year for the agency.
She says the support from those who sponsored or attended Saturday will bridge the gap in funding at least for a while, while they evaluate how they can adjust and still provide quality services.
