COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 32-year-old Flint woman accused of helping smuggle drugs into the Lakeland Correctional Facility was arraigned this week, in Branch County District Court.
Tyishia Charmaine Nicole Latrice Walker faces a charge of conspiracy to bring contraband into a prison, which is a five-year felony in Michigan.
State police troopers originally picked Walker up from the Oakland County Jail on a felony warrant Sunday, and transferred her to Branch County, where she remains in custody.
Walker was charged with Violation of the Controlled Substances Act (VCSA) and Cocaine Smuggling for reportedly attempting to smuggle cocaine to an inmate inside the prison.
During the initial court proceedings, a public defender was officially appointed to represent Walker, and a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf, she her bond at $10,000 cash or surety.
The incident remains tied to ongoing efforts to curb illegal controlled substances from breaching the security of the Coldwater-area facility.
Walker will be back in court for a preliminary exam next week.
