COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education was told by representatives from TowerPinkster and Owen-Ames-Kimball Monday night that based on early drawings for the new fourth and fifth grade school building, the $20 million project was currently over budget by $480,000.
Tom Stanek from Owen-Ames-Kimball said that figure is down from a $1.2 million deficit when they started a month ago.
Stanek was confident they can get the project back to the budgeted amount.
Board President Ed Lake said he did not want the school to look like a Taj Majah.
Board Member Nick Kryzminski said they need to keep in mind what was promised to the district taxpayers.
Following the close approval of a nearly $30 million millage and bonding issue last November by voters in the Coldwater Community School District, the new building will replace Lakeland Elementary. It is scheduled to open in December 2020. The district will also use the funds for infrastructure needs in the district and for the purchase of new buses.
