SCIPIO TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 12-year-old girl from Hillsdale County was airlifted after she and a 31-year-old woman were seriously injured in a vicious dog attack Friday night, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers responded around 9 p.m. to the 1400 block of Mosherville Road after reports of three mixed-breed pit bull-mastiff dogs that had escaped their kennels and attacked victims.
According to MSP, The girl and her 13-year-old friend, were riding scooters when they encountered the dogs in the front yard of a residence. The dogs suddenly charged the 12-year-old, knocking her down and mauling her as her friend ran for help unharmed.
A 31-year-old woman who heard the child’s screams rushed to intervene, pulling the dogs away before they turned on her. Both victims suffered serious injuries in the unprovoked attack.
The 12-year-old was initially removed from the scene by her mother before being airlifted to Henry Ford Hospital. She was later transferred by helicopter to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor for further treatment.
As of the latest updates, her condition remains serious but she is receiving specialized pediatric care. The 31-year-old woman was transported to Henry Ford Hospital, with unspecified injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, including how the dogs escaped and any potential charges against the owner.
