MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Proceeds from the first Bird Bowl, which featured soccer and football games August 31, 2017 between the Marshall Redhawks and the Coldwater Cardinals, have been announced.
A total of 571 pairs of socks were collected and the inaugural event raised an additional $300 for Marshall Area Community Services.
The evening featured Marshall victories in both the JV and varsity soccer games and a Coldwater triumph in the varsity football game.
The event was the idea of Marshall Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Hans Morgan and quickly gained the support of athletic directors and coaches at the two schools.
Marshall A.D. Dan Coddens said “it was important for us to promote sportsmanship, competition, celebration, and the support of a local non-profit organization to our student-athletes, families, and community members.”
