EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team picked up one win but suffered two losses to finish fourth place in the annual Eaton Rapids Division Two Soccer Invitational at the East Lansing Soccer Complex Saturday. The Cardinals opened the day with 2-1 shootout victory over Ortonville Brandon, after the game ended tied 1-1 in regulation. Shaif Ahmed had the lone goal for Coldwater, assisted by Mohamed Salem.
Despite holding a 1-0 halftime lead, the Cardinals fell to Haslett 4-2 in the semi finals. Shaif Ahmed and Angel Rodriguez scored, with assists from Mubarak Said and Koby Stewart. Coldwater lost the third place game to Mason 1-0.
Balal Nasser made 16 saves over the three games, and was in goal for the shootout victory against Ortonville Brandon.
The Cardinals are now 3-3-1 overall and will play at Gull Lake Tuesday.
The Quincy High School soccer team captured the Stockbridge Invitational title Saturday, beating Michigan Center 4-1 in their opening game, then topping Stockbridge in the championship game 4-1. Alex Pickell and Axel Beltran had two goals in each game.
