MENDON, MI (WTVB) – Heavy fog was a likely factor in a two vehicle crash at a St. Joseph County intersection Monday morning that took the life of a Mendon man and left two others persons injured.
The Michigan State Police report the crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Nottawa and Prairie Corners Roads. They say a 2002 Dodge Intrepid driven by 60-year-old Thomas Eugene Bell missed a stop sign because of the heavy fog at the intersection and was struck by a 2012 Dodge Journey driven by a 36-year-old man from Portage.
Bell was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, 67-year-old Betty Ann Bell of Mendon, was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo by Life Care Ambulance.
The driver of the Journey suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the crash which is still under investigation.
Assisting the State Police were the S.t Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, Mendon Township and Centreville firefighters and the State Police district accident reconstructionist.
