COLON, MI (WTVB) – A Colon area family is safe, but they lost all of their belongings and five dogs in a fire that destroyed their home on Christmas Eve.
The family was reportedly away celebrating with other family members when the blaze broke out. They returned to their home in the 3200 block of West Palmer Lake Road outside Colon in St.Joseph County around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday when they discovered the fire..
Five dogs were reportedly lost in the fire.
The couple and their two teenage daughters are now staying with family members in Mendon.
Chanae Mccann, the sister of the husband who owned the home, has set up a GoFundMe page, with the goal to raise $6,000 for the family. As of midday Christmas Day, $3,100 had been pledged.
