COLDWATER,MI (WTVB) – Health officials are renewing calls for Michigan residents to get their flu shots following the flu-related deaths of two children.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says the children were from Shiawassee and Wayne Counties and they both had the influenza B virus.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is reminding you that it is not too late to get your flu shot for this season.

“An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against flu,” says Kali Nichols, Director of Personal Health and Disease Prevention. “Vaccination has been shown to have many benefits including reducing the risk of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and even the risk of flu-related death in children.”
The 2017-2018 flu season was the most severe in a decade while the 2018-2019 season was record-breaking in duration, with flu activity remaining elevated for 21 weeks.
So far during the current flu season, Michigan is ranked second in the number of flu cases reported.
