COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s jobless rate has declined more than a full percentage point with the August numbers released Thursday showing 275 fewer people unemployed compared to the month before. 4.4% was the county unemployment rate last month, down from 5.7% in July. A year ago, the figure was 6.2 in August of 2014.
State officials said the jobless rate declines were seen across southwest Michigan and were related to fewer summer and seasonal jobseekers in local labor markets last month. Also, some support staff in the private and public schools were recalled in August to prepare for the upcoming school year.
