COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The new Mel Gibson movie “Hacksaw Ridge” has a connection to Coldwater.
Remnant Publications of Coldwater was authorized to publish the book “Hero of Hacksaw Ridge” and they have already printed and shipped over half a million copies.
The story is about Desmond Doss who as a combat medic and pacifist refused to carry a weapon during World War II. He later won the Medal of Honor for saving 75 soldiers during the battle of Okinowa.
Dwight Hall from Remnant Publications says the original title was “The Unlikeliest Hero” when the book came out in the late 1960’s
The books have been made available locally.
Hall says NCG Cinema in Coldwater theater has passed out 400 copies of the book. Remnant Publications also donated two boxes of books to the Branch County Veterans Affairs office.
