COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy crews have been making some headway as they attempt to restore power to those who have been without electricity since Wednesday’s wind storm which featured gusts over 60 miles an hour.
At noon on Friday, about 95,000 customers were without power.
The utility said in a statement at midday Friday that the vast majority of customers should have power restored by midnight Saturday. In some of the hardest hit areas, including Genesee, Jackson, Kent, Lenawee, Ionia and Kalamazoo Counties, restoration work will continue into Sunday.
Consumers says the winds on Wednesday took down nearly 8,700 electric wires and broke over 1,200 poles in their service territory.
The numbers around Branch County have gotten better. As of noon Friday, 698 customers around the county were entering their second day without power. That number includes 131 customers in Coldwater, 267 in Quincy, 123 in Union City, 56 in Sherwood and 34 in Bronson.
