COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An active weather pattern threatening to bring strong storms across Branch County and Southern Michigan could significantly disrupt local 4th of July celebrations.
As a lingering heat dome breaks down, a weakening cold front moving into southwest Michigan is modeled to bring a 50% chance of rain and scattered thunderstorms.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Dustin Norman says we could possibly see brief but potentially strong storms to hit Branch County primarily during peak evening hours between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
The primary concern for organizers is the timing of these convective cells, which could directly overlap with community fireworks displays scheduled at dusk.
Branch county has no shortage of patriotic festivities scheduled this weekend starting on Friday
In Union City, residents can head to the high school Alumni Stadium for concessions and DJ music before the sky lights up at dusk.
Meanwhile, spectators around Marble Lake can stake out viewing spots at Tip Up Island, the Wildwood Road public access, or the Branch County Park on Lake Drive to watch a stunning, barge-launched fireworks show.
The patriotism continues on July 4 with a full lineup of traditional, events across the county.
The City of Coldwater always holds its fireworks July 4 at dusk at Heritage Park. The fireworks are visible from the Cemetery and North Lakes.
Coldwater Lake will start the morning with a community pancake breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a decorated boat flotilla departing the public launch at 1:00 p.m. and concluding with an evening fireworks display near the sand bar.
In Quincy, the annual hometown parade will step off from the high school parking lot at 11:00 a.m., sending classic cars, fire trucks, and veterans down Fulton, Jefferson, and Main streets.
Parade spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and stop by the Quincy Historical Museum, where the Friends of the Library will host their signature homemade pie sale to support the local library.
