COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The 2017 high school baseball season officiallly got underway for Coldwater and Union City Tuesday, with the Cardinals sweeping the Chargers 3-0 and 6-1. Bryce Barringer had a single and a double and scored a pair of runs in the opener for the Cardinals. Collin Torrey had a sacrifice fly and earned the save while Porter Skidmore had an RBI groundout. Cameron Barnes was the winning pitcher in relief as he struck out four and did not allow any hits in two-and-a-third innings.
Barringer scored a pair of runs in the nightcap while Oliver Winter had a double. Torrey and Lucas Santure had RBI singles. Austin Spray got the victory in relief. Brendan Stuchell had two hits for the Chargers.

Winning pitcher Tyler Scheid had a complete game and struck out 12. Darlene Horn, Dreu Mullin and Seairah Bradley all had doubles for Coldwater.

Hannah Economou had three hits including two doubles in the opener while Katie Newberry had two singles and a stolen base. Katie Swafford and Joey Asseltine both had two hits in the first game. Economou had four hits in the nightcap including a homer and a double while Nicole Jodway had two singles.
