ITHACA, MI (WTVB) – Additional charges were filed yesterday in a mid-Michigan courtroom against a former Branch County man accused in a savage beating in an elder abuse case.
The incident earlier this month in Gratiot County saw the mother of 53-year old Richard Coin of Alma suffer serious injuries. Coin had lived in Quincy in the 1990’s.
Coin was scheduled for a preliminary exam Wednesday, but it was postponed after two counts were added in the case. Coin was initially charged with first degree vulnerable adult abuse, a 15-year felony. He is now also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Coin’s 76-year old mother, who was under his care, was treated for multiple wounds, including a significant internal injury.
Coin’s preliminary exam on all 3 felonies is scheduled for April 19, 2017. He remains behind bars on a ten percent allowed, $250,000 bond.
