STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Despite outshooting Sturgis 17-4, the Coldwater girls varsity soccer team fell to the Lady Trojans 2-0 Wednesday night. Sturgis scored their first goal with 1:47 to play in the first half to break the scoreless tie, then scored on a corner kick midway through the second half.
Whitney Johnson made two saves in goal as Coldwater’s record falls to 1-1-1 on the season. They will next play after Spring Break April 11 at Jonesville.
The Coldwater JV soccer team improved to 1-1 on the season with a 2-1 win at Sturgis. Elise Leggett had both goals for the Lady Cardinals.

Battle Creek St. Philip 4, Union City 1
St. Philip snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring twice in the fifth. They then added another run for insurance in the sixth. Union City’s Larson Kever struck out five and allowed only one hit in four plus innings of work. Blade Gordon drove in the only run for the Chargers.

Skyler Herman had three of the 14 Charger hits in the opener. Herman and Autumn Carpenter both had doubles. Emma Elgan and Herman both had two RBI’s. Carpenter had three hits and two RBI’s in the nightcap. Aliison Adams and Haley Rivard were the winning pitchers.
Boys Track—
Quincy 78, Sand Creek 59
Quincy winners were John Purvis in the shot put and discus, Bryce Ruhl in the long jump and high jump, Michael Fisher in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Luke Hollenbaugh in the 800 and Nathan Nohr in the 3200. The Orioles finished first in the 400 and 3200 relays.
Girls Track—
Quincy 92, Sand Creek 45
Quincy winners were Jessica Holcomb in the 200 and the long jump, Allison Shilling in the shot put, Cheryl Avra in the discus, Emily Hollenbaugh in the high jump, Gabby Porter in the 1600, Madilyn Allman in 300 hurdles and Harmony Harpster in the 800.
