COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Road Commission has had enough of all of the accidents at a dangerous intersection on the northeast side of Coldwater.
Branch County Commissioner Don Vrablic, who serves as a liaison to the Road Commission, says the Road Commission Board voted Thursday to make the intersection of Michigan and State a four way stop.
Vrablic says the Road Commission will give the public plenty of notice as to when the four way stop will go into effect.
He adds Road Commission Engineer Garrett Mylan has conducted a traffic study which found nearly 20 accidents have taken place at Michigan and State in the last five years.
Currently, only traffic on Michigan has to stop at the intersection.
Once the intersection becomes a four way stop, large stop signs will be installed and rumble strips will be put in similar to what drivers encounter on Jonesville Road as they approach Old U.S. 27.
Vrablic says the Road Commission will also pursue state grants which would be used to turn the intersection into a traffic circle that could possibly happen in three years.
