Alfred William “Al” Woods, 88, of Coldwater passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, July 4, 2026.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Interment will take place at a later date at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
Al was born July 17, 1937, in Coldwater, Michigan to Wesley L. Woods and Leona (DeVoe) Woods. A proud patriot, he honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps., carrying the values of service, honor, and dedication with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Al built a strong work ethic through many occupations. He worked as a storekeeper, spent 45 years as a contractor with Hickok Construction, and later retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1999. No matter where he worked, Al was known as someone who could always be counted on.
Al’s greatest legacy was his unwavering commitment to his community and fellow veterans. He was an active member of American Legion Post 52, proudly serving on the Post’s Drill Team for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, and the Jaycees, and was a dedicated member of both the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge for more than 50 years. His commitment to serving others earned him the honors of Jaycee of the Year and Marine of the Year through the Marine Corps League.
Outside of work and volunteer service, Al found joy in woodworking and spending time on the lake. He treasured the friendships he built over the years and was known throughout the Coldwater community for his generosity, sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His impact on those around him will be remembered for generations.
Al is survived by his children, Tracey Vaughan and Steven (Allison) Woods; his brother-in-law, Lee Pfost; his sister-in-law, Emma Woods; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Leona Woods; his brothers, Paul Woods, Ralph Woods, and Earl Woods; his sister, Marlene Pfost; and his former wife, Connie Woods.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Post 52 Drill Team or the Marine Corps League.
