CLEAR LAKE, IN (WTVB) – The body of a missing wakesurfer was found in Clear Lake, Indiana Saturday evening, almost 48 hours after he went under the surface.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources identified the victim as 20-year-old John I. Adams of Lake Forest, Illinois.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
Indiana Conservation Officers say Adams was found in 56 feet of water by a remote operated vehicle sonar unit. A diver then retrieved the body.
The Steuben County Underwater Recovery and Rescue Team assisted the D.N.R. during the search along with the Angola and Fremont Fire Departments, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Fremont Police, Clear Lake Police and Steuben County EMS.
Clear Lake residents and visitors were told to stay out of the East Bay area until the body was recovered. The Clear Lake Marina boat ramp was closed while the search was being conducted.
A candlelight vigil was held Sunday to offer support to Adams and his family as well as the first responders who conducted the search.
