COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Lakeland Correctional Facility now has the highest number of prisoners who have been tested for COVID-19 in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
In turn, the prison in Coldwater has the most positive cases in the M.D.O.C..
Thursday’s report from the M.D.O.C. shows 266 Lakeland prisoners have been tested for coronavirus. A total of 208 have tested positive while 58 tests came back negative. No test results are pending.
Eight Lakeland prisoners have died from COVID-19 while 15 are in a step down unit and are no longer considered contagious.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency reported that as of 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the number of positive cases in the tri-county jurisdiction includes 42 in Branch County outside of the Lakeland Correctional Facility, 27 cases in St. Joseph County and 97 cases in Hillsdale County.
