JACKSON, MI — An Illinois woman is in custody after a high-speed chase through lower Michigan.
It began just after 9 p.m. Wednesday when a Michigan State Police trooper was attempting to stop the driver on I-94 in Berrien County, but due to safety reasons authorities called off the pursuit as the suspect took off, traveling over 100 mph.
The driver was then spotted in Kalamazoo County and while the chase was ended once again, deputies continued to carefully follow the vehicle as entered Calhoun County.
Deputies in that area then created a roadblock with their police cruisers to try to stop the driver, but instead the suspect hit one of the police cruisers and continued fleeing.
The 31-year-old woman was located near I-94 and 22 Mile Road and was eventually stopped when officers near Albion used spike strips to flatten her tires. She continued down the road on two flat tires for about 16 miles until the vehicle stopped near Airport Road in Jackson County.
No injuries were reported and the driver was taken to the Calhoun County Jail. She could now face charges of fleeing and eluding and driving on a revoked license.
