Herman Frank “Herm” Vaulkner, 78, of Fredonia Township, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Doug Myers Farm,
6700 S. Old U.S.-27, Marshall
, to celebrate Herm’s life.
Herm was born December 9, 1941 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to William and Anna (Myner) Valkner. He was youngest of nine children. On August 19, 1960 he married the love of his life, Betty Jane Irish. Herm retired in 2002 from the City of Marshall, where he was the power plant operator. Herm’s true love was farming and he enjoyed his hogs and beef cattle. He loved the outdoors. He was very meticulous about his yard and “The Pond.”
He loved his Allis Chalmers tractors. “Orange” was his color. He was very handy in the shop and always busy. He recently rebuilt a 185 Allis Chalmers tractor. He also rebuilt many antique cars and trucks. He belonged to several area tractor clubs, including the Fly Wheelers and the Scotts Old Tyme Power and Equipment Association. He participated in many tractor shows. Herm’s shop was always open. If you needed something fixed, he would help you or show you how to do it. He enjoyed bonfires and cookouts at The Pond. Most of all, he truly loved his family.
Herm is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Kelly Dinnan and Kim (Bill) Day; grandsons Will (Sarah) Day, Randy (Krystal) Day and Justin (Laura) Day; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Emily, Hailey, Kody, Lucas, Colton, Caitlynn, Clayton and Bridger Day; a sister, Donna Clift; brother-in-law Elmer (Mary) Irish; special friends Dave and Chris Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, April Kay Vaulkner; a son-in-law Jack Dinnan; a granddaughter, Becky Combs Day; and seven brothers and sisters.
