COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys soccer teams returned to action Wednesday night following a two week quarantine, with the varsity squad falling at home to Jackson Northwest 4-2, but the junior varsity team winning 6-1.
Northwest scored on two direct kicks in the first half, enroute to a 3-1 halftime lead. Angel Rodriguez scored the Cardinals lone goal in the first half, with 5:14 to play in the half, assisted by Brayden Boyd.
Coldwater cut the lead to one with 23:12 to play on an unassisted goal by Hashed Abdullah, but Northwest got an insurance goal with 7:26 to play in the game off a corner kick.
Michael Orozco-Aburto made two saves in goal, as the Cardinals outshot Northwest 13-6.
Coldwater is now 0-2 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 1-3 overall. The varsity team plays at Jackson Lumen Christi Thursday afternoon, before both teams host DeWitt Saturday.
In the junior varsity victory over Jackson Northwest, Ghaith Musa had two goals, with one each for Arif Ahmed, Ezaldeen Ahmed, Ryadh Muflihi, and Griffin McCuen.
