COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a request from the Commission on Aging Tuesday afternoon to reopen the Burnside Center for small activities that would follow strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
The Burnside Center has been closed since March 16 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
C.O.A. Executive Director Amy Duff said her board’s top priority was keeping seniors safe from COVID-19 but the pandemic and quarantine has taken a mental health toll on seniors.
The activities being proposed would have nearly a dozen COVID-19 protocols in place. Those protocols include pre-registration for activities, the signing of a COVID-19 waiver, the wearing of masks, social distancing and limited class sizes.
Duff says they are ready to implement the plan within the next couple of weeks.
