ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – One person was captured while another at last report was still at large following a vehicle pursuit in St. Joseph County on Friday morning.
Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were involved in a vehicle pursuit at about 8:10 a.m. on U.S. 131 near Heimbach Road.
They tried make a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 pickup truck for a speeding infraction. The vehicle being pursued continued to the area of Cowling Road near Mohney Lake Road where it veered into a field and became stuck.
The male driver then fled on foot. A female passenger also fled but deputies caught up with her and deployed a taser after she resisted.
After being evaluated by medical personnel, she was lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple charges.
The male suspect got away and it’s believed he later stole a maroon GMC Yukon from a residence in the 14000 Block of Bullock Road.
That vehicle was later found abandoned in the City of Kalamazoo. It was determined the original Ford pickup was reported stolen out of Mecosta County. A handgun and narcotics were also located in the stolen Ford pickup.
Deputies believe they do know the identity of the male suspect, but are not releasing it at this time. Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Three Rivers and White Pigeon Police Departments and the Three Rivers Fire Department.
