UNDATED (WTVB) – The Centreville Bulldogs showed they had plenty of bite on Friday night as they defeated the Reading Rangers 32-14 in a M.H.S.A.A. Football Division Eight district title game.
The loss ended Reading’s hopes of winning a third straight Division Eight state title and snapped the Rangers 12-game post season winning streak.
The district football title was the first one ever for Centreville. Thanks to a reduced enrollment, the Bulldogs are competing this year in Division Eight after being in Division Seven during the last two years.
Centreville is 8-0 thanks to a defense that has allowed only 29 points this season and has recorded five shut outs.
The undefeated Bulldogs advanced to the regional title game next weekend to face Sand Creek which defeated Addison 36-32 on Friday night.
Another St. Joseph County team is through to the regional round after the Constantine Falcons defeated Buchanan 55-28 in a Division Six district title game. The Falcons will face Michigan Center next week after they defeated Jonesville 28-22.
Two Interstate 8 teams were in action on Friday night. Jackson Lumen Christi won a Division Seven district title as they defeated Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 22-6. Lumen Christi will play Schoolcraft in the regionals next week after Schoolcraft defeated Lawton 42-7.
Pennfield was beaten by Williamston 28-12 in a Division Four district title game.
In Division Two Eight Person Football, defending state champion Colon will play at undefeated Portland St. Patrick on Saturday afternoon for a regional championship and the right to advance to next week’s state semifinals.
