ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – An Algansee Township family lost nearly a dozen pets on Sunday morning when a fire broke out in their home.
Quincy firefighters were called to 1013 Lester Road which is just east of South Ray Quincy Road at about 11:15 a.m.. The fire department reports that it was initially thought people could be trapped inside.
Crews found heavy smoke throughout the home and significant fire in the kitchen area.
A primary search of the building found five dogs and six cats. Resuscitation efforts on the pets was unsuccessful.
A secondary search was conducted and proved to be negative. The homeowners were later found to be safe at a family members house.
The home and its contents suffered significant fire and smoke damage. The point of origin was traced to an electrical outlet in the kitchen that appears to have arched.
The Fremont Fire Department, Lifecare Ambulance and Branch County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
