COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack reported during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting that there was an inmate death at the County Jail last Wednesday.
He said the death investigation has been turned over to the Michigan State Police and is ongoing.
Since it is an ongoing investigation, Pollack said he would have no further comment.
Pollack said County Administrator Bud Norman was informed of the death the following morning.
The sheriff added they are conducting an internal review of their policies and procedures to see if a MISSION team should be called in from the Michigan Sheriffs Association for a further review.
That type of team can serve an as outside investigative team when an internal investigation is conducted.
The name of the inmate has not released but Pollack said the victim was a relative of a volunteer from their Victim Services Unit.
The cause of death has also not been released.
