QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Village Council approved a five-year contract agreement with Erin Hamilton-Crites on Tuesday night who will serve as the new Canine Control Officer for the Village.
The Village Council approved the reinstatement of a police canine unit in October.
A policy establishing the utilization of the canine has also been put in place.
Officer Cody Longrey was the handler for a year-and-a-half but the Quincy K-9 program was discontinued in January of 2018 when Longrey accepted a position with the Coldwater Police Department.
Magnum K-9 would be donating the animal and various fundraising options have been explored.
Outside police agencies will be allowed to use the Quincy K-9 under terms of the contract.
In other business, the Village Council joined other municipalities in a passing a resolution that asks Branch County Commissioners to postpone adoption of the draft 911 Central Dispatch Service Plan.
A public hearing on the plan is scheduled to take place during the Commissioners meeting next Tuesday.
The resolution also directs County Administrator Bud Norman to work with the cities, villages and townships as well as law enforcement and fire service agencies on the development of a “mutually agreeable service plan for the betterment of the citizens of Branch County and future governance of the 911 Central Dispatch organization.”
