COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council passed a resolution Monday night which honored longtime Director of Municipal Service Dave Sattler as he is retiring next Tuesday after serving the city for 26 years.
Sattler was hired to serve as the Superintendent of the Department of Municipal Services on May 9, 1994. He was appointed Superintendent of the City’s Department of Recreation in March of 2002.
The resolution stated his many accomplishments included the establishment of Coldwater’s tennis courts, pickle ball courts, disc golf course, splash pad, softball and soccer complex as well as the youth baseball fields, dog park, new recreation building and aquatic center along with improvements to Heritage Hall.
He was also credited for improving leaf collection, snow removal, reducing composting costs and the creation of a user
friendly cemetery grave marking and identification system.
In other business, the Council approved a resolution in support of the Downtown Development Authority’s application to the Michigan Main Street Select Level Program.
They also approved a contract with the Michigan Department of Transporation for improvements on Sauk River Drive between South Michigan Avenue to South Willowbrook Road.
MDOT has scheduled a widening and resurfacing for that portion of Sauk River Drive. The project includes widening the road to accommodate a dedicated center turn lane. The estimated City contribution is over $120,000.
The project is scheduled to be bid this month with work set to begin sometime this summer.
On behalf of the Military Memorial Committee and Branch County Historical Society, I would like to congratulate Dave Sattler on his retirement and wish him well in the years to come. My committee can not express enough, our gratitude to Dave for all his support over the past seven years. He has helped us with moving artifacts into and out of the 4-Corners Park, and aided with the delivery of large artifacts to our restoration sites. When a landowner gave me the D.A.R. Early Settlers marker, it was Dave Sattler who stepped in and provided the manpower and equipment to move the memorial onto City of Coldwater property near its original site, and allow me to return it to public ownership for safe keeping. Best Wishes Dave Sattler! Dave McDonald, MMC Founder, BCHS
