John Frederick Cooney, 74, of Camden, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 14, 1946 in Bryan, Ohio to Ernest C. and Mary (Shrapnel) Cooney. John married Kathleen “Kat” (Schlachter) on July 7, 1968 and she survives.
John graduated from Camden-Frontier High School, class of 1964. He drove truck for Roost Oil and later retired from Crystal Flash. He enjoyed working on the farm, deer hunting, fishing, watching the Lions and Tigers games and playing Euchre. John dearly loved his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Kat, John is survived by four sons, Shawn (Roxanne) Cooney, Troy (Gin) Cooney, Lance Cooney, Ladd (Lindsay) Cooney all of Camden; three sisters, Nancy (Lou) Earles of Indiana, Sally (Gerry) Kuster of Lawton, Cathy (Mike) Smith of Jackson; two brothers, Clarence Bud (Carol) Cooney of Colon, Thomas (Diane) Cooney of Edon, Ohio and eight grandchildren, Kaity Graham, Austin Church, Kendal Cooney, Dylan Cooney, Layne Cooney, Wade Cooney, Tydann Cooney and Sutton Cooney.
John was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Cooney.
According to John’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. A celebration of life to honor John Frederick Cooney will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading.
