BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – After the largest snowfall of the season during the overnight hours of Monday when nearly eight inches of snow fell, the coldest weather of the season moved in Wednesday morning.
The temperature got down to 13 degrees below zero at about 4:30 a.m. at the Branch County Memorial Airport before the mercury started to go back up.
It almost broke a record. According to the Weather Channel, Coldwater’s record low for February 17th is 15 below set in 1979.
The extremely frigid weather comes just four years after Coldwater’s record high for the date was set. It was 61 degrees on February 17th, 2017.
The mercury dropped even further at other locations in Michigan. Marshall recorded a low temperature at 8:00 a.m. of 21 degrees below zero.
Leota was in the ice box at 23 degrees below zero. The National Weather Service reported the following official low temperatures…

The temperature in Coldwater has been below freezing since February 4 but relief is on the way starting on Sunday as highs are expected to get into the 30s.
