John C. French, 66 of Coldwater, Our beloved grandpa, father, brother, son, and friend went to dance on those golden streets on February 24, 2021.
In keeping with John’s wishes cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
John had worked at Home Depot since its opening in Coldwater and could be found at ‘the information desk’ when he wasn’t napping in the break room. He was an excellent handyman and was known for his beautiful work as well as his never-ending projects. John never met a stranger and although he prided himself on being a grumpy old man, his sense of humor and kind heart were his most easily recognizable traits. He was a wizard in the garden, a fierce lover of Jesus, and a friend to everyone he met. He loved coffee, Hawaiian shirts (the uglier the better) and a good joke. His best times were spent in the company of his family and in long conversations with those he loved.
John is lovingly remembered by his daughters Megan Smith, Mallory VanWagner, and Molly Farlow, and his dear friend and mother of his children, Roberta French. Having raised three girls, he was delighted to finally gain sons in Steve, Byron, and Randy. He will be dearly missed by his brothers Jim (Susan) French and Neil French, sister Maryann Humble, and his mother Mary French. The greatest joys of his heart were his grandchildren: Conner and Lydia Kaniewski, Liam, Norah, and Elliette VanWagner, and Alex French and Roman Farlow. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, close friends Art and Gail VanWagner, Bill and Dolly Carpenter, and a multitude of friends, all of whom he considered family.
John was happily received in heaven by his father, Jack French, sister-in-law Kathy French, and his best friend Bob Sibbald. His family will mourn privately at this time and celebrate his memory when the weather is warm, and a gleeful disturbance can be made in his honor.
In lieu of cards and flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lighthouse so they can be directed for the care of John’s Mother and that you perform a random act of (sneaky) kindness in his memory.
