Evelyn Carol Swanson, 83, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at her son’s home in Bronson under hospice care and while surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor Frank Queen of Snow Prairie Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow at Bronson Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Please wear your favorite sports team clothing to honor her memory.
Evelyn was born January 13, 1938 to Cuyler and Ethel (Barnes) VanValkenburg in Adrian. She was a hardworking woman, spending many years working. Evelyn worked in Alaska for 2 years in adult foster care before moving back to Michigan in 1985. She then worked at Ames in Hillsdale for 7 years before their closing. Evelyn then worked at Walmart for 20 years, mainly as a cashier before retiring in 2015.
Evelyn was a huge sports fan, especially NASCAR. She also enjoyed going fishing, spending time knitting, crocheting, and doing bead work. Evelyn was an avid flower gardener, spending many hours growing various types of flowers. She also liked watching the birds and butterflies that visited her gardens. Evelyn will be remembered for her big heart, kind and giving spirit, as well as being a very strong presence in her family’s lives. She always put the needs of others above her own. Evelyn will be dearly missed by those she knew and loved.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by her children Richard “Rich” (Pamela) Swanson of Bronson, Robin “Rob” (Rosanna) Swanson of Litchfield, and Kathryn Swanson of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law Laurie Swanson of Coldwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Melody Jones; her sons Randy, David, and Jeff Swanson; three half-sisters and one half-brother.
