Charlotte was born January 4, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Albert and Iva (Handley) Ward. She grew up in Battle Creek, graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1955 and attended nursing school in Detroit. After becoming an LPN, Charlotte worked at the Coldwater State Home, Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, and later at nursing homes in Marshall and Battle Creek.
On November 11, 1961, she married Gaylord Elwood Hunt at the West Eckford Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in Burlington and were married for 50 years at the time of Gaylord’s death in 2011.
Faith and family were central to Charlotte’s life. She and her husband belonged to the Burlington Church of God, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She believed devoutly in Christ and was a very loving and kind person. Charlotte was a mother above all. She loved camping as a family, which included several members of her extended family. She also liked sewing, playing piano and spending time with her granddaughter, Brianna.
Charlotte is survived by a son, Gaylord “Skip” (Kim) Hunt, Jr. and her granddaughter, Brianna Hunt, of Boiling Springs, SC; a niece, Winnie (Jim) Tallent, and a nephew, Frank Clay, both of Battle Creek; and her church family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Hunt (2000); and her siblings, James Ward, Alberta Clay and Darlene Ward.
Memorial donations are suggested to Burlington Church of God, 300 E. Leroy Street, Burlington, MI 49029.
