Bob was born September 11, 1934 in Tekonsha, Michigan to George and Vae (Derrickson) Brott. He graduated from Union City High School in 1952 and served with the Navy Reserve during the 1950s. On September 4, 1954, he married the former Barbara McNett at the First Congregational Church in Union City.
Earlier that same year, Bob purchased Miller’s Grocery, where he had started working during high school. It was re-named “Brott’s Grocery.” In 1969 Bob built a new, much larger store, which he owned until 1978, when he sold it to Dennis and Becky Spooner and retired.
In his younger years, Bob enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, smelt dipping, pheasant hunting, deer hunting and mushrooming. For a decade starting in the early 70’s, he and Chuck Cooper owned sulky race horses. Bob was also a fan of Michigan sports teams, and would watch the Detroit Lions and Tigers both in-person and on TV.
In retirement, he and Barb did a lot of traveling, to various states and as far away as Nova Scotia and Europe. Bob was easygoing and had a lot of friends.
He served as a Burlington Township Trustee, was a member of the Union City Fire Department and the Union City Rotary, as well as was a lifetime member of the Coldwater Elks Club.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara; his sons, Jeff (Teena) Brott of Sherwood and Jim (Laura) Brott of Sturgis; grandchildren, Steve Brott of Coldwater, Doug Brott of Burlington and Katelyn Brott of Sturgis; and great-grandchildren, Jaxson Brott, Jace Brott, Ethan Brott and Luke Brott (on the way).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Lorraine Brooks and Clara Lee Arnold.
