Norman Earl Lewis, 80, of Sherwood, passed away at home Sunday, April 18, 2021 under the care of his family and Heartland Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2021 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. Private interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
Norm was born April 4, 1941 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Clark and Ethel (Blowers) Lewis. He grew up in the Sherwood area and graduated from Athens High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Marines and was stationed at Lake Mead Base in Nevada during the 1960s.
On October 29, 1966, he married the former Vivian Banks in Battle Creek. The couple made their home on Norm’s family farm, where he had helped to build the Stone Barn.
Norm both started and ended his career working for Stanton Farms. He was also a weekend farmer on his own property. But he spent the majority of his working life as an owner/operator truck driver. Over the years he hauled for many businesses, including Groholski Brothers, Spoor & Parlin, Anderson Trucking Service and Carrie Transit.
Norm got to see most of the United States behind the wheel of his truck. Sometimes he’d take along his wife, who he had met at the Te-Kon truckstop. When he wasn’t driving or farming, Norm enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh and watching CNN and Fox News. He was a major channel surfer and a big-time joker who dearly loved his family.
Norm is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Vivian; his children, Terry (Tiffany) Lewis of Whitehall, MT and Philip Lewis of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Alexa Lewis, Megan Bradley, Zachery Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Kaasi North and Cameron Byrd; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Aubrey, Nolan, Journey, Louella, De’Khari and a little girl on the way; and his siblings, Lenna Pose of Lakeville, MN, Margaret Rumsey of Union City, Roger Lewis of Athens and Janice Lewis of Mendon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Susan Lewis; and his siblings, Patricia Swank and Leslie Lewis.
Memorial donations are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation, 1169 Oak Valley Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48108 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
